Darfur represents a major region for peanut production in Sudan, and this region regularly provides two-thirds of the national harvest of groundnuts, and it was an important traditional source for the supply of gum Arabic that passes from the east to the states of Darfur, the Jebel Marra region is one of the main areas for orange production and the supply of central Sudan and all Darfur areas with oranges. Darfur was also a pioneer in supplying tobacco in Sudan, most of which is cultivated in North Darfur. Sesame is also produced in Darfur, and it is an exported crop of high value to Sudan at the national level. The importance of the five cash crops is not limited to the overall economy of Sudan, as they are considered a component of the family economy and a means of livelihood in different areas of Darfur.
